Lawrence family severs ties with Hastings firm

Members of a family with a longtime connection to the Lawrence business community have closed out an 80 year association with a motor vehicle parts store in Hastings. Ike and Daisy Friend launched Friend’s Motor Supply in downtown Hastings in August of 1943, and grandchildren grew the business which eventually included parts stores in Hastings, Kearney, Minden, Aurora and Grand Island. The auto parts business has now been sold to the Genuine Parts Company, the owner of the National Auto Parts Association brand name and a member of the Friend family is no longer associated with the business.

In recent years the stores had been owned by Tim and Sherry (Friend) Mick and partners.

Ike and Daisy (Roth) Friend grew up in the Lawrence and Deweese areas and established their home in Hastings.

A son, Don, was involved in the truck equipment side of the business. A family member continues that business today under the name of Matt Friend Truck Equipment.
