Gosh . . . maybe it was something in the air . . . but to see the Husker volleyball team lose in the manner they did, and . . . to see the L-N boys basketball team lose in the manner they did . . . it was a tough weekend for Nebraska sports. On the other hand, both Husker basketball teams won.

The best comment I heard concerning the women’s volleyball team was . . . “at least it wasn’t to Wisconsin.”

Another word for “Atheist” is “Non-believer” and I’m guessing that this time of the Christmas Holy Day may be among the toughest times of the year for anyone who thinks they are an atheist. Toss in the whole story of Jesus Christ coming to earth as a baby and they toss out the whole story. Or, so I understand.

The following is something I came across some time ago and I saved it for now. I think it appropriate to use it now as it gives special meaning to the Christmas season and the birth of Jesus Christ.

An Atheist’s View of Life:

• I will life my life according to these beliefs:

• God does not exist

• It is just foolish to think that there is a God with a cosmic plan.

• That an all-powerful God brings redemption and healing to the pain and suffering in the world is a comforting thought,

• However, it is only wishful thinking.

• People can do as they please without eternal consequences.

• The idea that I am deserving of Hell because of sin is a lie meant to make me a slave to those in power.

• “The more you have, the happier you will be.”

• Our existence has no grand meaning or purpose.

• In a world with no God there is freedom to be who I want to be.

• But with God everything is fine.

• It is ridiculous to think I am lost and in need of saving.

(Now . . . read this from bottom to top and see what you get. The following starts with the thoughts listed at the end and repeats them from the bottom to the top.)

A Christian’s View on Life:

• I am lost and in need of saving.

• It is ridiculous to think everything is fine.

• But with God there is freedom to be who I want to be.

• In a world with no God our existence has no grand meaning or purpose.

• The more you have, the happier you will be is a lie meant to make me a slave to those in power.

• Because of sin I am deserving of Hell.

• The idea that people can do as they please without eternal consequences is only wishful thinking. It is a comforting thought, however that an all-powerful God brings redemption and healing to the pain and suffering in the world.

• That there is a God with a cosmic plan.

• It is just foolish to think God does not exist.

• I will live my life according to these beliefs.

It’s been said a million times that the American form of government was started in those years of the late 1770s with the understanding that the base of the government was a Christian belief in God.

One of the founders noted in his writing that the government might not stand without the belief in God.

Now, some 250 years later, we find American as having one of the longest number of years of existence of any form of government in the world, it is a good time to think about what atheists, and others, want us to change in our political understanding of what is right or wrong.

Without considering a Democrat or Republican viewpoint on a subject, should an American practice receive a “fundamental change” as some wish?

Do we really need to continue killing babies (abortion) to solve social problems? Even China, with their large population, have changed their “family” policy that limited family size. They have come to understand what a disaster their abortion policy had been.

Do we really need to have governments spending millions (probably billions) of dollars they don’t have, and do it by borrowing that money from places that are not friendly to the U. S? Don’t we need to pay those loans back some day?

Do we really need to try to teach children that there are more than two genders in the human race? Would it not be better to teach the truth and then assist others that think differently? Maybe they have been given a gift most all don’t realize.

Do we really want to promote the idea that our actions do not have consequences? Consider states such as California and New York, or cities such as Chicago and Denver that “fundamentally” changed their laws so that crimes go unpunished and cultures grow into anything except Christian.

The list could go on forever, but suffice it to say, as the founders of American said in the 1770’s and later, America needs a firm foundation to operate as it should and that foundation is a belief in Christian standards and then have people who can stand up to support those standards.

Now . . . one of the most puzzling questions I have of America today centers around the following.

A year or so ago, “Verizon,” the phone company you know, forced us to give up the phone and plan we had with them. It was the time people had to ‘upgrade’ their phone systems because of changes in the technology and our phone at the time was not able to be used. We attempted to find ways to remain in their network, but nothing worked and they finally told us we had to buy one of their new programs and phone, or quit using their phone.

We changed phone companies and are pleased with what we have. We come to find out that the old system we had was just that “old” and it didn’t cost us all that much. We concluded that Verizon was just getting rid of everyone that was still using that old system at a price much below what was being charged with newer phones and systems.

Now . . . Verizon has been after us to restart our business with them as we’re getting many invitations to rejoin them thru the mail, or phone calls.

After they kicked us out for paying a low fee, they now want us to join . . . I’m guessing at a much higher fee.

No thanks.

I’m wishing everyone a Merry Christmas. Please join in the season of Christmas with family, friends and festivities. Christ came into our world for each of us . . . please enjoy that fact and that’s the reason to enjoy the event.
