The Republican River bridge southwest of Hardy

January 4, 2024

This week as we leave 2023 behind and cross over in 2024, we are somewhat uncertain what the new year will bring. Randy Nielsen, an Express photographer, said entering the new years is somewhat like what it was for him on a recent foggy morning when he crossed the Republican River bridge southwest of Hardy. He had left Nebraska behind and was entering Kansas but he couldnʼt see the mysteries that Kansas held. The bridge straddles the Republic and Jewell county lines and is less than a mile south of the Nebraska-Kansas stateline. The current bridge was opened to traffic about 50 years ago and is much better than the previous bridge. It replaced a one-lane bridge with a three-ton load limit. An Express newspaper clipping showing the prior bridge shortly before it was replaced is available for viewing on our newspaper web site which can be found at http://www.superiorne.com
