Michael E. Peters

Michael E. Peters, the son of Michael N. Peters and Theo (McCune) Peters, was born Feb. 16, 1940, in rural Beloit, Kansas, and died Dec. 28, 2023, at his home in Formoso, Kansas, at the age of 83.

Mike grew up in Jewell County, attending school in Formoso, and several rural country schools. Following his schooling, he helped his dad with the custom silage business. He and his father were also contracted to help remove the trees before the construction of the Lovewell and Waconda lakes. He went on harvest for three years with Max Louder before starting his own custom harvesting business. He was a custom harvester traveling from Texas to the Canadian border for 38 years. Mike built fence and cut firewood when he wasn't harvesting. He made his home in Formoso.

On Dec. 10, 1960, he was united in marriage to Janice Ruth Hettinger. To this union was born, Juretta, Mykel, and Javenia.

Mike enjoyed the outdoors along with hunting and fishing. He also especially enjoyed his dogs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael N. and Theo Peters;

longtime companion, Dorothy Sjolander; one brother, Dave Peters; and brother-in-law, Delbert Mendenhall.

Mike is survived by five children: Juretta P. (Darrell) Anderson, Mykel R. (Tanya) Peters, Javenia T. (Rick) Stansbury, Kandi (Dennis) Wallin, and Allan Carlson; two sisters, Lavernia (Mark Stenson) Peters and Lila Mendenhall; one brother, Joe (Mary) Peters; grandchildren: Taylor, Jeffrey (Kristie), Kindra (Jimmie), Michael, Jordyn, Colton (Hope), Rylee, Jeanie, Brian, Jamie (Yinka), Colton, Mollie, and Kryslynn; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

His graveside funeral was held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, at the Caldwell Cemetery, rural Formoso with Pastor Daniel Waide, officiating.

Friends could call from 1 until 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 1, 2024 at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, Kansas, where the family received friends from 4 until 6 p.m. on Monday.
