New owner for Burger Barn

It has its own niche. It's iconic. It has been a favorite place to go to for decades. Townsfolk and those vacationing in the area stop by on their way to or from Lovewell Lake. Many have frequented the drive-in now known as Burger Barn in Superior.

The fast-food restaurant has undergone changes over the years with different owners and business names. It has struggled with survival at times, yet it has endured. "I have been coming here since I was a little girl. Our community needs it as there are not many restaurants in town," said Candace Butler.

Last October, Candace was manager of the Burger Barn, and recently became its newest owner, "I genuinely love this type of work," she said. Candace's vision is to "have a variety of food and bring the place up to speed with technology, so the restaurant will be here for years to come."

Walking around town, one can hear talk about going to Burger Barn for an infamous ice cream cone or shake; in any kind of weather!

The ice cream and shakes have stood the test of time and will remain on the menu along with the burgers. For those who like a little kick to their food, the new Wildcat Burger is spicy and was a suggestion by John Pavusa.

Other new selections include a few items "South of the Border" like their grilled tacos and nachos. There's a new spread with sandwiches too. A few of them are panini, Rueben and chicken cordon bleu.

Menus in restaurants often evolve to keep things fresh and exciting. Keeping this in the forefront of her mind, Candace said, "We'll add more to the menu as we go."

When customers walk into the restaurant, the dining area has also been refreshed with an updated look . There is crisp white paint on the upper portion of the walls, with natural pine shiplap about 1/3 of the way up the wall from the floor and surrounding the entire dining area and order window for a modern, rustic design. The windows have red and black checkered curtains which cordinates with the red, white and black color scheme on their menu. All of the modest décor is Superior Wildcats themed.

At the entrance there is a refrigerator near the entrance containing the "take and bake" pizzas, not reflected on the menu, but made in-house. It is suggested that customers pre-order pizzas 24 to 48 hours in advance to get the toppings and quantity they want, as the pizzas in the case quickly sell out.

Burger Barn has incorporated digital ordering and payments. Consumers can order their food using the Clover app or the QR code on Facebook. Clover can be found in the app store using the town's zip code 68978. It will bring up the Burger Barn. Facebook. For contactless payments can also be made by using Apple Pay.

New business hours are Monday through Saturday 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. and closed on Sundays. When the weather gets warmer, Burger Barn's hours of operation may be extended.
