Lonnie E. Jones, 82, of Kearney, died Jan. 30, 2024, at Good Samaritan Society St. Luke's faciltiy in Kearney. A graveside service was at 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 5, 2024, at the Pleasanton Cemetery in Pleasan-ton, Nebraska, with Pastor Dean Hanson officiating. Military rites were provided by the Nebraska National Guard Funeral Honors Team, Leo & Clinton Krotz V.F.W. Post No. 9481, and Roy Eaton American Legion Post No. 321.

Lonnie was born Oct. 19, 1941, in Superior, Nebraska, to Elmer and Christina (Dillon) Jones. He graduated from Nelson High School in 1959. He started working construction and dirt moving after high school. Lonnie was drafted into the Army in 1964 and served until 1966. Following the service, he farmed near Superior.

In 1998, he moved to Kearney. Lonnie married DiAnn Vonderfecht May 10, 2000, in Kearney. Lonnie worked maintenance at Mid Nebraska Community Action Partnership in Kearney until retiring in 2014. In 2018, Lonnie was proud to be awarded the Pioneer Farm Award for 100 years of family farming.

Lonnie enjoyed tinkering, refinishing furniture, going to garage sales and watching old westerns on television..

Lonnie is survived by his wife, DiAnn Jones of Kearney; daughter, Jennifer, and Frederick Kujath of Fairbury, Nebraska; stepdaughters, Suzanne Davis of Kearney and Michelle Martinson of Omaha; sister, Karen LaRock of Sparta, Wisconsin; other family members, Paula Kramp, Josh and Darcy Jones, Jeremiah Jones all of Omaha, and Jonah and Hailey Jones of Olathe, Kansas.
