Berniece Harris

Berniece Lorene (Silsby) Harris, the daughter of James and Iva (Lamb) Silsby, was born on Dec.4, 1929, on the family farm near Northbranch, Kansas. She died Dec. 27, 2023, at Brodstone Health- care in Superior, Nebraska, at the age of 94 years, and 23 days. Berniece was one of 12 children. She graduated from Burr Oak High School with the Class of 1947. She was a member of the Burr Oak United Methodist Church, Young Matrons Club and Eastern Star.

She was united in marriage to Charles Jay Harris on Aug. 14, 1947. This marriage was blessed with three sons: James Willard, Charles Michael and Jerry Wayne. They lived, farmed and raised livestock on the family farm northeast of Burr Oak. She enjoyed keeping track of the crops and livestock on the farm. She especially enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play sports. She enjoyed hearing about her great-grandchildren's adventures. She was an avid Kansas University basketball fan and liked playing pitch. She has been described as being full of spunk, amazing, neighbor, friend, one of a kind, more like a sister than an aunt, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

On Jan. 3, 2019, she moved into the Good Samaritan Center in Superior, Nebraska. She enjoyed the outdoors, feeding and watching the squirrels, putting jigsaw puzzles together, and visiting with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles, on June 20, 1994; two brothers: Doyle Silsby and Boyd Silsby, nine sisters, Thelma Pierson, Glendora Paxton, Madeline Pinkston, Belle Kandelin, Fern Harris, Edythe Francis, Mary Ohmstede and twin infant girls, all her brothers-in-law, and sister-in-law, Dodie Silsby.

She is survived by her three sons, Jim and wife, Michell, and Mike of Burr Oak, Kansas; and Jerry of Superior, Nebraska; six grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Donna Silsby of Auburn, Kansas; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Her funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 15, from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, with Kelly McNichols officiating.

Recorded music will be "Lead Me Home" and "Amazing Grace-My Chains Are Gone."

Honorary pallbearers will be Sarah Ledesma, Wyatt Harris, Elliott Harris, Morgan Harris, Adam Harris and Guthrie Harris.

Inurnment will be in the Burr Oak Cemetery.
