Jim actively served our country as a radio operator in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Upon discharge, he moved back to Nebraska where he worked in an auto body shop in Lincoln, Nebraska. He later moved back to Deweese and accepted a job at the grain elevator.
He married Sharon Busboom on April 6, 1961, at the Catholic church in Deweese. When offered the chance to buy the elevator, he purchased it instead of letting it close. Upon retirement, Jim sold the elevator to CPI. During retirement, he enjoyed playing golf, fishing and watching Husker football and volleyball. When he moved to Kearney, he continued to enjoy fishing, playing cards, working puzzles and woodworking.
Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Kent Kailey Post No. 45, VFW and NGFA. Jim served on the Sandy Creek school board.
