Vacuum station added for Lovewell boaters

Visitors to Lovewell Lake will find something new this year, The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks utilized aquatic nuisance species prevention funding to purchase clean, drain and dry stations. The units are solar powered and provide vacuum equipment for draining boat hulls and live wells when leaving the reservoir. It is hoped the use of the equipment will help prevent the spread of aquatic nuisance species such as zebra mussels.

It is recommended that boaters clean their boats thoroughly, drain all water and dry for five days before entering another body of water. The Lovewell unit will be located near the handicapped boat lift.

Visitors will also notice some of the state park cabins have changed.

Two of the 15-year-old deluxe cabins, ones named Lookout and Pilgrim, have been replaced with Yurt-style cabins. The Scout cabin is also scheduled to be replaced by a cabin purchased from the Neosho Community College Construction Program.
