District court clerk submits resignation

April 18, 2024

Nuckolls County will soon have a new district court clerk. Royce Gonzales, the current district court clerk, has submitted his resignation effective May 9. State statue directs the county commissioners to accept applications and chose a successor to serve through Jan. 6, 2027.

The district court position will appear on the 2026 primary and general election ballots and the person winning the election will take office in January of 2027.

Those interested in the appointment may request an application from the county clerk. The applications are to be returned to the county clerk’s office by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 26.

Unlike the county court position, which is a state office, the district court clerk’s position is considered a county position.

A statement from Gonzales explaining the reason for his resignation follows:

I have turned in my resignation from my office as the Nuckolls County Clerk of the District Court. Wednesday, May 8, 2024, will be my last day. I have accepted the executive director position at the Youth For Christ in Hastings, Nebraska.

I have loved serving the people of Nuckolls County, but as many of you know, ministry is my passion, and I could not pass up the offer. I want to thank everyone for their unwavering support and ask that you keep me in your prayers, that God would use me for His purpose. I will miss all of you, but hope to stay in contact.

Sincerely,

Royce Gonzales
