Raider Golfers busy at Red Cloud

The Golf Team from Lawrence- Nelson High School spent several days last week at the Red Cloud Golf Course. They enjoyed a Tri-angular Meet followed with a 14 team tournament.

RED CLOUD INVITATIONAL:

On Thursday, April 11, 14 teams came together for the Red Cloud Invitational. The day included that ole Nebraska wind to make it an interesting day.

Doniphan-Trumbull won the event with a score of 365. They were six strokes fewer than second place Sandy Creek. Following were: Red Cloud, Deshler, St. Cecilia, Gibbon and EMF. The L-N Raiders finish in 8th place with a stroke count of 402.

Following L-N were: Silver Lake, Superior, BDS, Franklin, Heartland Lutheran and Blue Hill.

The Raider varsity team and results were as follows: Bayln Bargen 99, Jacob Kathman 97, Carson Vaughn 91, Cody Brockman 117 and Caden Culbertson 115.

Carson Vaughn’s 91 earned him the 10th place medalist honors.

There was a J. V. competition as well, although no team was able to fill a full squad for the JV portion of the tournament.


Golfing for L-N were Nathan Pofahl who recorded a score of 96 and Hayden Mazour who came in with a 112. Natahan’s score earned him 3rd place honors among the JV competitors.

RED CLOUD TRIANGULAR:

Two days before the large tournament, L-N joined Red Cloud and Blue Hill for a nine-hole Triangular Meet at Red Cloud.

L-N won this event with a team score of 174. Red Cloud was 2nd with 185 and Blue Hill 3rd with 219.

The Raiders had five golfers finish in the top eight at the Tri-angular Meet. Individual scoring was: Connor Janda 47, Bayln Bargen 44, Jacob Karmazin 45, Clay Williams 45 and Carson Vaughn with the low score for the Raiders of 40.


Carson’s score of 40 was the low score for the day. He was three strokes better than Lukas Armstrong of Red Cloud.

Competing on the L-N JV team were: Cody Brockman 50, Caden Culbertson 54, Nathan Pofahl 54, Hayden Mazour 53 and Kole Thompson 55. Of the 12 JV golfers at the event, L-N had five players finished in the top six.

The golfers face a busy several weeks ahead as they have one event this week and two events in each week after.
