Weather forecast causes tense moments

With North Central Kansas being in a Stage 3 severe weather alert area on Wednesday, schedule changes were announced Tuesday for the St. John’s junior high track meet. The Rock Hills students planned to attend the event on Wednesday.

Field events were to begin at 9 a.m. Plans were to run two long jump and two triple jump pits. Running events were to start at 10 a.m.

The National Weather Service was predicting two to three rounds of storms on Wednesday with an enhanced risk near the Kansas-Nebraska border. The area has been starved for precipitation but possible flooding was included in the forecast.

Because of unsettled weather and the possibility of a tornado on Saturday, the southwest door of the Mankato Community Center was unlocked so the facility could be used as a shelter.
