Donald Fintel

Donald Eugene Fintel, the son of Gus and Rose (Wulf) Fintel, was born on March 5, 1932 in Deshler, Nebraska. He died on May 2, 2024, at the Superior Good Samaritan Society Home at Superior, Nebraska, at the age of 92 years, 1 month, 27 days.

Don attended Superior Public Schools. He married Rose I. Rogers on Jan. 9, 1952. Three children were born to this union. They divorced in 1991. Don was a lifelong member of Centennial Lutheran Church in Superior and was engaged in farming. For many years, he was a bus driver for Superior Public Schools. He was a founding board member of the Superior Rural Fire Department, a longtime member of the Eagles Club and a director for Farmers Co-op Elevator.

In his later years, he enjoyed restoring old John Deere tractors and hunting with his family. Because of his health, Don entered the Superior Good Samaritan Society in November of 2016.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Paula Sholtz, Feb. 7, 2019.

He is survived by his children, Dixie (Craig) Grisham of Superior; Lori Weavil of Superior; Lee (Ann) Fintel of Lincoln, Nebraska; seven grandchildren: Jaramie Grisham, Dawn Sutherlin, Taylor Youngblood, Nicole Fintel, Justin Fintel, Erin Richwine and Samantha Sholtz; eight great-grandchildren: Dylan, Meg, Caleb, Lane, Landon, Lily, John Carter and Christopher; sister, Donna Jean (Warren) Smith of Superior; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

His funeral was held at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, May 8, from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Pastor Greg Shaffer officiating.

Music was "On Eagle's Wings" and "Amazing Grace-My Chains Are Gone," provided by Vickie Nielsen and Ivan Milller and recording "Free Bird."

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m., on Tuesday with family present from 5 to 7.

Pallbearers were Roger Petersen, Steve Wilton, John Combs, Tom Gebers, Mike Hoyer and Rodney Rogers.

Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska.

Memorials are suggested to go to the Simic Skating Rink or Superior Good Samaritan Society.
