Janet Eloise McCorkle Merrill was born to Henry and Wynona McCorkle on Nov. 19, 1945, in Superior, Neb- raska. She died on Thursday May 9, 2024, at the age of 78, at St. Francis Hospital, Wichita Kansas.
A private family burial will be held at a later date. There will be no viewing or visitation, per her request.
The family home was in the country near Burr Oak, Kansas, which is where she grew up and went to school. She graduated from Burr Oak High School in 1963. Shortly after, she married John Merrill at Burr Oak on June 16, 1963. To this union wereborn two children, Kim and Kevin. While raising their family, she worked at Mode O Day in Hastings, Nebraska. She also worked at various grocery stores in Nebraska and Kansas.
Janet enjoyed traveling with her paper road maps, going to baseball sporting events, collecting cat memorabilia, genealogy and an occasional margarita. Most importantly, she had a deep love of her family and helped with organizing many family reunions.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a stillborn sister.
Survivors include her husband, John Merrill; her children and their spouses, Kevin and Kelli Merrill, Kim and Ron Karabel; siblings Ardean McCorkle and Phyllis Stoppel, sisters-in-law and their spouses, Marta and Kenny Chandler, and Linda and Jack Ecklund, and April Lang; eight grandchildren- 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
