Evelyn Jackson

Evelyn Donna Rae (Hurst) Jackson, daughter of Noble and Pauline (Rainforth) Hurst was born Nov. 7, 1932, in Hall County, Nebraska, near Doniphan. She was educated in the Doniphan public schools graduating with the Class of 1950. Her dad began the bus service for the schools with a privately owned bus that the family also used for vacation trips.

After graduation, Evelyn worked and lived in Grand Island. While corresponding with her cousin, Darrel Brown who was serving in the Air Force stationed in Alaska, she was introduced to Glenn Jackson and on April 14, 1952, they were married after dating for six months. They were married for 65 years. They began married life while Glenn was still in the Air Force and stationed in Great Falls, Montana.

After his discharge in 1953, they made a brief stop at her parents' home in rural Doniphan for the birth of their son, Danny, and then back to Ohio where Glenn was from. They lived first in Winchester, Ohio. Then they moved across the Ohio River to Tollesboro, Kentucky. Glenn worked in construction and they added two more children, Jeff and Pam, to their family. In 1960, they moved back to Nebraska living in Hastings first then rural Hall county, during which time Glenn began his career as a route salesman for Abbots Dairy. Evelyn continued working from home as a homemaker.

They added their fourth child, a daughter, Kim, and then moved to Superior in 1963, continuing with Abbots Dairy. Glenn worked for Abbots Dairy that was bought by Robert's Dairy with Evelyn keeping the books. Robert's Dairy sold the routes to Glenn and Evelyn Jackson and it became Jackson Dairy.

Glenn and Evelyn bought a building on Main Street in Superior where Evelyn moved her Christian Book business. She was a distributor for Christian Standard Publishing selling books, music and Sunday School materials. She supplied many area churches with a variety of resources along with Christian gifts, cards, books and Bibles for many years. She accepted Jesus as her savior at a young age. She was active in church wherever they lived. After moving to Superior, she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School to grade schoolers for more than 40 years.
