Mankato's pool may or may not open this summer

The Mankato City Council knows the weather will be warm this summer. However, it is believed to be necessary to close the pool part of or the entire summer to accomplish maintenance and ensure the public is safe.

Covid-19 has put a damper on many activities. The city council acknowledges the public has been restricted for the past few months and needs recreational opportunities. If feasible, the council will open the pool depending on the Covid-19 status and the maintenance status. Much of the maintenance is replacing doors, repairing concrete and painting. The metal pool liner needs repaired in several places and new water valves and piping need installed.

The city council is waiting on bids to start the work and a tentative grant to perform some major maintenance this fall. If they can get some of the priority safety items accomplished sooner, it may be possible to open the pool by mid-summer. It is hoped local vendors can perform most of the work. The pool has long been a popular feature.
