Will show movie on auditorium lawn Friday

For a number of years in the 1950s and 1960s, Superior had a drive-in movie screen that was never used. It was located east of the Victorian Inn. The lack of a drive-in screen doesn’t mean Superior area residents can’t watch movies outdoors.

At 9 p.m. Friday, a movie will be shown in the lot south of the Superior Auditorium. An admission fee will not be charged.

The pastor of the First United Methodist Church said, “While we live in a rural community with little diversity, we are still impacted by what is going on in our country and the world. We, along with other churches, will show the movie Just Mercy. It doesn’t feel like there is much we can do except inform, educate and make people aware of what the realities are for people of color in our country. So that is what we are trying to accomplish and the only purpose behind this. Micah 6:8 asks us “What does the Lord require of you? To seek justice, love, mercy and walk humbly with your God.”

Those attending are asked to bring a chair or blanket and physically distance from others.

The movie is rated PG13 for mild violence, profanity and intense scenes.

The auditorium committee will be serving fresh squeezed lemonade and nachoes in exchange for a free-will donation to support the continued restoration of the auditorium.

Volunteers have insulated the auditorium ceiling and are ready to install an acoustical ceiling. The ceiling panels have arrived but considering their weight, the volunteers have decided they need to enlist the aid of those more experienced in the building trade. Each panel weighs 125 pounds. The committee needs to raise an additional $5,000 before the ceiling work can be completed.

After the ceiling is installed, the next major project to be addressed is the heating and air conditioning system. Funds to pay for the new system must also be raised.
