L-N boys split a pair at holiday tourney

It was a mixed feast for the Lawrence-Nelson boys basketball team at the Hershey Holiday Tournament. The Raiders dropped their opening round game, 52-42, to the host Hershey Panthers last Wednesday. They rebounded with a 40-33 win over the Gothenberg Swedes to take third place at the tournament on Thursday at Hershey. Lawrence-Nelson competes in Class D-1 this season. Hershey is in Class C-2 while Gothenberg plays in C-1.

The Raiders hosted McCool Junction at Nelson, Tuesday, with game results unavailable at press time.

Lawrence-Nelson stayed close to Hershey but was never able to close the gap. The two teams were tied at 26 all at the half. The Panthers slowly pulled away after the Raiders offense slowed. The loss put the Raiders in the third place bracket. Statistics were unavailable for the game.

The Raiders regrouped against Gothenberg after falling behind 12-6 in the first quarter. They pulled back to lead 22-15 at the half. Another seesaw period saw their lead whittled to one point, 28-27 after three quarters of play. They amped up the offense while clamping down on defense to pull away for a 40-233 win.

Krayton Kucera led the Raider scoring against Gothenberg with 11 points. Blake Wroughton accounted for eight points. Cole Troudt dropped through seven points. Logan Menke recorded six points for the game. Trevor Biltoft and Keith Miller contributed four points each.

Menke pulled down 12 rebounds. Biltoft nailed down 10 rebounds. Troudt landed five rebounds. Kucera snagged four rebounds. Miller and Wroughton added three rebounds apiece.

The win left the Raiders with a 3-5 record at the close of 2020.

Lawrence-Nelson takes the bus to Giltner today (Thursday) for a game with the Hornets, The Raiders travel to Mankato, Tuesday, to play Rock Hills.
