JC Commissioners finalize April business

The Jewell County commissioners met last Monday with commissioners Brent Beck, Steve Greene and Keith Roe and Carla J. Waugh, county clerk present.

The following were present for the office head meeting: Nora Rhoades, Post Rock Extension director; Shannon Rogers, Post Rock Extension district communication manager; Nancy Marihugh, health administrator; Alexandria Carabajal, county attorney; Amanda Davis, register of deeds; Kevin Peroutek, noxious weed director, emergency preparedness director and 911 coordinator; and Travis Garst, solid waste director. Those absent were: Don Jacobs, sheriff; Anna Porter, county appraiser; Brenda Eakins, treasurer; Chris Petet, custodian; Shannon Meier, ambulance director; and Joel Elkins, general superintendent.

Amanda Davis said the recordings are steady. The spring district meeting was hosted by the register of deeds and treasurer the previous week.

Nancy Marihugh reported for April, two cases of COVID-19 were reported along with one death. Her department provided 185 vaccines in April and the wait list is short. Marihugh said if 16 to 18 years are interested in receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, they can get the Pfizer vaccine. She said KDHE now allows them to provide vaccines to individuals residing in or out of Kansas. She received word of approval for the ELC grant.

Kevin Peroutek discussed the EMP daily regional briefing and the state briefing every other day. He discussed the American Rescue Fund. Kevin attended the regional Homeland Security meeting. Noxious weed - robust sales, spraying when weather permits.

Travis Garst said he completed permits. He is working on landfill metal area. They sent a load of cardboard through a different vendor.

Alex Carabajal reported 60 traffic cases; four juvenile felon cases; six child in need of care; DCF investigating additional child in need of care; 18 criminal cases filed this year; 160 head of cattle neglected or abused taken in to court custody; KBI was here lasr Wednesday working on the gun theft cases.

Carla Waugh said she sent out road closing notices for hearing on May 17. She attended the CDBG TEAMS meeting concerning CV3 funding. Jewell County is not eligible since it received funding from CV1 and CV2. She said municipal election is this year with filing deadline of June 1. Two candidates have filed: Brandon Hollerich and Wayne Frost.

Steve Greene attended the economic development meeting; juvenile detention meeting and planned to attend the hospital board meeting.

Brent Beck attended the 12th Judicial Justice Authority meeting and had taken several road complaints.

Keith Roe had also taken road complaints.

Wanda Backstrom, agency director of the 12th Judicial District Community Corrections, reviewed the adult and juvenile comprehensive plans and requested signatory approval. The commissioners gave their approval.

Greg Flavin telephoned about road work needed.

Joel Elkins, general superintendent, discussed road maintenance. The commissioners approved the agreement for Federal-Aid Consulting Engineering Inspection Services for approval.

Don Jacobs, sheriff, discussed hail damage vehicles.
