Jewell County Fair scheduled for July 8-11

The Jewell County Fair will be held Thursday, July 8, through Sunday, July 11. This year’s theme is Small Town Throwdown. Pre-fair judging will be held at the Mankato Community Center on Tuesday, July 6. Open class quilts will be judged starting at 9 a.m., 4-H photography and open class foods at 10 a.m., 4-H fiber arts, 4-H clothing, 4-H fashion revue and 4-H foods will begin at 1:30 p.m. Bake sale will start at 2 p.m. at the south entrance of the Mankato Community Center.

The 4-H food stand serves home cooked food during the fair. The food stand opens for breakfast at 6:30 a.m. and goes to whenever activities are over each day.

The horse show will open the fair on Thursday, July 8, starting at 10 a.m. Open class early exhibit check- in will be from 6 to 8 p.m.

Friday morning check in for exhibits will be from 7:30 to 9 a.m., with judging immediately following. The poultry and rabbit shows start at 12:30 p.m. The bucket calf show will begin the evening’s entertainment at 4:30 p.m., with the beef show following at 5 p.m. in the covered arena. From 6 to 8 p.m., there will be a “Chuck Wagon Supper” that tickets will need to be purchased ahead from the extension office. At 7 p.m., a ranch rodeo will be in the horse arena and to finish the night off at 8:30 p.m. there will be the jackpot barrel racing.

Saturday will begin with the swine show starting at 8 a.m., with the sheep and goat show following 30 minutes after. The round robin showmanship contest will be held at 2 p.m. Family Fun Night at the fair will be an evening of fun activities starting with bouncy house and water slides, 4 to 7 p.m.; Catch-an-Animal at 4:30 p.m.; and a pedal tractor pull at 5 p.m. For the older youngsters, there will be ag olympics at 7 p.m. To finish up the night, Acoustic Roosters Band, dance will be in the covered arena at 8 p.m.

Sunday will begin with livestock judging contest at 12:30 p.m. Animal exhibits will be released at 2 p.m.The fun swim at the Mankato City Pool is from 2 to 4 p.m. Quonset exhibits will be released on Sunday afternoon from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The public fashion revue will begin at 6 p.m. at the sale barn and will be followed by the awards program. The final event will be the livestock premium sale at 7 p.m. at the sale barn.
