4th of July Activities; Happy Eating!

I wouldn’t want any of our readers to miss out on any of the festivities coming up this weekend, especially all the food and the opportunity not to have to cook. So with that said, here is what you have to look forward to.

In Nelson, on Saturday, you can get away with not having to cook a thing all day. The Nelson Fun Days kick off with a free-will breakfast in the park, beginning at 7:30 a.m. The Sacred Heart Altar Society will serve lunch at Noon. For dinner, the Nelson Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting a free-will hamberger feed.

If activities are what you are looking for, the Fun Run begins at 7:30 a.m., walk, run, or ride your bike! Washboard Tournament starts at 9:30 a.m., and the kid’s games begin at 11 a.m. At one o’clock, drop the kids at the pool for the free swim and head over to watch the sand volleyball tournament. Don’t miss the annual cardboard boat race held at the pool at 4:30. The evening will begin with Bingo by the Legion Auxiliary and beer garden and dance by the Elk Creek County Club.

At sundown, enjoy the fireworks display by the Nelson Volunteer Fire

Department.

On Sunday, July 4th, you can enjoy sleeping in a bit after the late night of dancing and fireworks before the golf tournaments at Elk Creek Country Club. If golfing isn’t your thing, the Nelson P.E.O. will be serving a free will pulled pork sandwich stay and eat or take yours to go.

In Lawrence, the Legion Post 45 will be having their Annual 4th of July BBQ from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. They offer 1/2 chicken or hindquarter with

a choice of two sides and a drink. The Legion will also be serving hamburgers from 11 to 1:30 and 5 to 7. The Legion will be open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. for other refreshments.

With so much to do in our normally quiet little communities this weekend, I can’t decide whether or not I want chicken or pulled pork on Sunday! Maybe I will get both! Here’s to a safe and happy 4th of July and to what might be the first Independence Day my son doesn’t set himself on fire. LOL!
