11 new COVID cases Jewell County and one hospitalization

The Jewell County Commissioners, Steve Greene, Brent Beck and Keith Roe met Feb. 7. Carla J. Waugh, county clerk, attended the meeting.

Shannon Meier, ambulance director, provided the January activity and billing reports. He said COVID-19 testing has decreased for his department.

The Proclamation for February as Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month passed unanimously.

Joel Elkins, general superintendent, discussed bridge and road maintenance projects and equipment repairs. He said the tubes are expected to be delivered in February.

Don Jacobs, sheriff, requested an executive session. When regular session resumed, no action taken.

Travis Garst, solid waste director, had a quote for a forklift. Commissioners approved the purchase from Berry Material Handling of the 2015 Yale 4,000 lb. forklift for $10,450 less trade-in value the county forklift.

Cindy Becker, health administrator, discussed quotes for the new flooring at the health department building. She is working on the grant applications for 2023. She said they are working on insurance billing for the administrative cost portion of the COVID-19 vaccines. She reported Jewell County had 11 new cases the prior week with one new hospitalization.

Commissioners approved to non-renew the contract between USD 107 and Jewell County Health Department when it expires in June 30.

Kevin Peroutek, Emergency Preparedness director, and Laura Leite, Cottonwood Consulting, discussed procedures and regulations for expending the APRA funding.
