SHS opens outdoor track season

The Superior High School boys and girls track and field teams opened the 2022 season with back to back meets Friday and Saturday. Ryan Renz, head coach, split the team between the two meets. The Wilcox-Hildreth Invitational was staged Friday at wilcox. The team competed at the Fairbury Invitational at Fairbury Saturday.

The Superior girls finished in ninth place, with 46 points, at Wilcox-Hildreth in the 15 team field. Other teams at the meet were Cambridge, Axtell, Overton, Loomis, Amherst, Twin Loup, Elm Creek, Arapahoe, Bertrand, Franklin, Wilcox-Hildreth, Alma, Silver Lake, Pleasanton and Giltner. The boys were in 13th place, with 18 points, in the 17 team field. Heartland Lutheran and Red Cloud entered teams in the boys events but not the girls.

Sadie Rempel finished in sixth place in the girls 100 meter dash with her time of 13.6 seconds. Sadie Cornell took 10th place with her time of 13.9 seconds. Cornell was ninth in the 200 meter dash with the time of 29.2 seconds. Halle Bargen held 11th place with her time of 30 seconds. Faith Butler took 11th place in the 400 meter dash with the time of 1:10.10. Rempel ran the event in 1:21.

Butler posted an eighth place finish in the 800 meter run with her time of 2:51.6. Jada Hemion finished the 800 meter in 3:09.2. Hailey Blecha and Hemion did not record a time in the 1600 meter run.

Cayce Barry finished the 100 meter hurdles in 1:06.3.

Madison Heusinkvelt earned second place points in the shot put with her toss of 34'.25". Mia Gardner tossed the shot 26'1". Lilly Edwards had a toss of 25'8.25". Heusinkvelt held 10th place in the discus with her throw of 80'1". M. Gardner had a throw of 67'9". Barry took eighth place in the high jump with a bar-clearing 4'5". Edwards turned in a 3'10" effort.

Rempel took top honors in the pole vault when she cleared the bar at 9"6".

Cornell earned the sixth place points in the long jump with her leap of 15'. Bargen turned in a jump of 13'5".

Owen Perrie turned in a time of 14.3 seconds in the boys 100 meter dash. Thomas Mathis turned in a time of 14.6 seconds. Caiden Smullins crossed the finish line with a time of 15.7 seconds. Dylan Edwards finished the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.3 seconds. Cristian Avalos completed the 400 meter dash in 1:06.1.

Hunter Mazzulla took ninth place in the 1600 meter run with his time of 5:30.6. Dereck Kirchhoff failed to post a time in the event. Mazzulla earned second place points in the 3200 meter run with the time of 11:26.9.

Henry Griljava tossed the shot 32'8.5" ion the shot put to finish in 20th place. Chris Chavez had a 27'8.5" toss in the shot put. Riedar Vier had a toss of 26'5".

Griljava had a throw of 69'9' in the discus. Christian Osweiler finished with a throw of 66'. Chavez had a throw of 55'11".

Avalos was in 11th place in the long jump with his leap of 17'3". Smullins covered 12'9".

Edwards covered 31'2" for the triple jump. Mathis covered 28'10".

The girls team finished in 5th place, with 46 points, at the Fairbury Invite. The boys were in seventh place with 36 points. Other teams at the meet were Beatrice, Conestoga, Crete, David City, Lincoln Lutheran, Sandy Creek, Seward, Elkhorn Elkhorn North, Fairbury, York and Fillmore Central.

Ella Gardner brought home the third place points in the 100 meter dash with her time of 13.02 seconds. Madison heusinkvelt posted a time of 14.31 seconds for the event. Kati Engelhardt finished with the time of 17.14 seconds. E. Gardner finished in second place in the 200 meter dash with her time of 26.95 seconds. engelhardt listed a time of 37.46.

Mikynzie Hansen turned in a time of 21.65 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles.

Laci Kirchhoff completed the 400 meter dash with the time of 1:10.45.

Shayla Meyer nailed a first place finish in the discus with her throw of 130'1". She added a first place finish in the shot put with a heave of 37'3". Atlee Kobza picked up fifth place points in the discus with her throw of 106'4'.

Hansen recorded a leap of 13'4" in the long jump.

Dane Miller took second place in the boys 110 meter hurdles with his time of 11.62 seconds. He picked up second place points in the 300 meter hurdles with his time 41.58 seconds. Aiden Humphries held ninth place with his time of 48.25 seconds.

Aiden Humphries ran the 100 meter dash in 12.4t7 seconds.

Seth Schnekenberg took fifthg place in the shot put and first place in the discus throw for Superior at the Fairbury Invite Saturday.

Gavin Ekstein took eighth place in the 100 meter dash with his time of 11.76 seconds. Luke Jameson posted a time of 28.3 in the 200 meter dash. Matthew Colgrove put up a time of 1:00.08 in the 400 meter dash. Tanner Theis ran the event in 1:0‑‑1. 87.

Payton Christiancy had a toss of 39'3.5" in the shot put for an 11th place finish. Jameson had a toss of 34'8".

Brett Miller closed out his 800 meter run with the time of 2:2564. He ran the 11600 meter run in 5:35.49.

Seth Schnakenberg took first place points for Superior in the discus with his throw of 153'9". Jameson registered a throw of 95'. Schnakenberg had a fifth place finish in the hot put with his toss of 46'11.5".

Colgrove covered 17'4.5" in the long jump.

The teams travel to Hebron, today (Thursday) for the Thayer Central Invitational. The Sandy Creek Invitational is Tuesday.
