The American Legion's "Boy's State" program has a long history in Nebraska helping to educate Nebraska's youth in the workings of the Nebraska governmental system. The Lawrence American Legion Post 45 has taken part in the program for many years. This year, they cooperate with the Lawrence 'Sons of the American Legion to send two young men to Lincoln for the week long experience.

2022 may also mark a first for the community as a set of twins have been approved by the state to attend. They are the sons of Kris and Peggy Kotinek of Lawrence, Tyson Kotinek and Toby Kotinek, both members of the Junior class at the Lawrence-Nelson High School.

As a person might expect, a lot of their activities and interest are similar, but there are differences as well.

Tyson's high school activities include: football, basketball, track, one- act plays, dinner theatre, FCA, Legion baseball and he is a member of the Sons of the American Legion.

Outside of school, Tyson enjoys hunting, tapping, walking the creek and golfing in his spare time. He is also a Storm hockey fan and enjoys their games.

Toby is involved in football, basketball, golf, one-act plays, dinner theatre, FCA, Legion baseball and is a member of the Sons of the American Legion.

Like his brother, Toby also has a life outside of school and in that time he enjoys golfing. A family member notes: "If he's not in school or at practices, you'll find him on the golf course." Toby also likes going to Storm hockey games and swimming in the summer.
