L-N volleyball faced tough matches

It was a rough week for the Lawrence-Nelson volleyball team as their strength of schedule continues to handicap the team. The Raiders went 2-3 in their last five matches. The week started off well with a hard fought three-set, 25-23, 25-23 and 25-17 win against Friend at Friend last Tuesday. A visit to Deshler, Thursday, resulted in a four-set, 13-25, 25-22, 25-20 and 17-25 loss to the Dragons. Lawrence-Nelson hosted a tournament Saturday and they were rudely treated by their guests. Exeter-Milligan handed the Raiders a three-set, 25-16, 22-25 and 11-25 loss. The Raiders downed Tri County 25-17, 21-25 and 25-17, in three sets. The Aquinas Monarchs put Lawrence-Nelson away in three sets, 19-25-25-21 and 20-25. The Raiders played at the Kenesaw triangular Tuesday against Harvard and Kenesaw with match results unavailable at press time.

Kara Menke topped the Raider killer list against Friend with 10. Sydney Biltoft and Katelyn Mazour tromped down eight kills apiece. Hanna Skinner donated six kills. Claire Himmelberg was in for three kills. Jessica Sole and Emily Troudt had one kill apiece. Mazour and Skinner split the defenders for three aces each. Biltoft had an ace. Menke topped the diggers with 19. Himmelberg ratcheted up 15 digs. Mazour topped up nine digs. Skinner scooped away eight digs. Sole and troudt had a dig each

Menke stood her ground at the net against Deshler for 12 kills. Himmelberg and Troudt posted six kills apiece. Skinner took care of five kills. Biltoft downed four kills. Mazour notched three kills. Josie Hajny had a kill. Biltoft and mazour each scored with an ace. Menke led the diggers with 10. Himmelberg came away with nine digs. Collecting eight digs apiece were Biltoft, Mazour and Troudt. Sole gathered up seven digs. Addi McCloskey added six digs. Mazour had four digs.

Menke topped eight kills against Tri County. Biltoft rammed down seven kills. Skinner and Troudt accounted for five kills apiece. Mazour posted two kills. Himmelberg had a kill. Skinner and Troudt sliced through three aces each. Himmelberg, Mazour and Menke scored with two aces each. Mazour scoured the floor for 19 digs. Skinner handled 10 digs. McCloskey contributed eight digs. Himmelberg landed five digs. Sole finished with three digs. Troudt added two digs. Biltoft had a dig.

Biltoft was the lead killer against Exeter-Milligam with 10. Himmelberg and Menke put away six kills apiece. Troudt made three kills. Mazour and Sole were in with a kill apiece. Skinner scorched through six aces. Mazour put through an ace. Skinner kept track of 11 digs. Mazour accounted for eight digs. Sole presented six digs. Himmelberg and McCloskey kicked in four digs apiece. Biltoft and Troudt had three digs each.

Mazour was the chart topper killer against Aquinas with eight. Biltoft put down six kills. Skinner acquired five kills. Menke and Troudt finished the match with four kills each. Menke eased through three aces. Himmelberg and Skinner scored with two aces each. Mazour led the diggers with 18 digs. Skinner added 12 digs to the defensive effort. Himmelberg collected 11 digs. Sole gravitated her way to 10 digs. Menke tallied six digs. McCloskey and Troudt were in four two digs each. Biltoft had a dig.

Lawrence-Nelson travels to Shelton for a match with the Bulldogs today Thursday. The Raiders travel to Geneva Tuesday for a triangular match with Fillmore Central and Silver Lake.
