Technology . . .

It can be cussed and it can be praised . . . and depending on the situation, both actions can be correct.

Take this coming week for example. Friday night to be sure.

The Cornhusker football game is Friday this week, not Saturday. And, of course, the high school football games are also on Friday.

I’ve had to cut down on the number of football games I attend because of mobility problems, but I haven’t lost my love for high school sports. If I can’t make a game, I watch it on the computer via the ‘STRIV’ system. I love the L-N games and we watch the games our grandson plays in whenever we can. As such I solved our dilemma for this Friday night.

Nancy will have the Beatrice High School game on her I-Pad; I will have the L-N game on my computer and we’ll have the Cornhusker game on TV.

That may be too much.

I can remember well, back a few years, when TVs came out with the ability to show multiple ball games on the screen at the same time. I had people praise that feature, but I could never understand the need to watch so many games at any one time. I love watching the games I have an interest in, but just to watch a game on TV because you can . . . that’s a great waste of time.

There have been many times over the years when I come across an article that just seems to have been given me, “Just at the Right Time.”

I have no idea of where the following came from, but it seems to have come out at the right time. I have no idea if it was written as a political shecht, or not, but it did strike me that I first saw it now, just before the November election. Read it through slowly and think about it.

Fable:

Don’t argue with donkeys

The donkey said to the tiger: “The grass is blue.”

The tiger replied: “No, the grass is green.”

The discussion heated up, and the two decided to submit the question to arbitration, and for this they went before the lion, the King of the Jungle.

Already before reaching the forest clearing, where the lion was sitting on his throne, the donkey began to shout: “His Highness, is it true that the grass is blue?”

The lion replied: “True, the grass is blue.”

The donkey hurried and continued: “The tiger disagrees with me and contradicts and annoys me, please punish him.”

The king then declared: “The tiger will be punished with five years of silence.”

The donkey jumped cheerfully and went on his way, content and repeating: - “The Grass Is Blue”...

The tiger accepted his punishment, but he asked the lion: “Majesty, why have you punished me? After all, the grass is green.”

The lion replied: “In fact, the grass is green.”

The tiger asked: “So why are you punishing me?”

The lion replied: “That has nothing to do with the question of whether the grass is blue or green.

The punishment is because it is not possible for a brave and intelligent creature like you to waste time arguing with a donkey, and on top of that come and bother me with that question.”

The worst waste of time is arguing with the fool and fanatic who does not care about truth or reality, but only the victory of his beliefs and illusions. Never waste time on arguments that don’t make sense.

There are people who, no matter how much evidence we present to them, do not have the capacity to understand, and others are blinded by ego, hatred and resentment, and all they want is to be right even if they are not.

When ignorance screams, intelligence is silent. Your peace and quiet are worth more.

Now . . . add that little story to the revolutionary idea of 1776 that the right to govern comes from God, (through the people) not from the government itself.

Most of history has been written from the viewpoint that the government (kings, queens, dictators, or whoever) who thought they knew best.

The United States of America was conceived and originally governed under the concept that the power of the government was given by the people via the grace of God.

However, just like the Jewish people did years and years ago, some in America decided the free gift of ‘self-government’ is not good enough, but more needed to be added.

The Jews added more and more laws to the free gift given by God. In the last 75 years or so, some people in America seem to be doing the same thing to our system of government.

“The grass is blue” fable reminds me of the abortion question. Every nation in the world, I believe, has laws against killing of human beings. However, somehow we added “unless they are not born yet, or, they are too old.”

“The grass is blue” fable can be applied as well to the ‘gender identity’ questions people come up with. Most everyone has been educated with the idea that there are two genders: ‘male and female.’

Now, in the last few years, we have more varieties and governments seemed intent that all the changes they wish are implemented.

I’m no expert on “Liberal” ideas, but I get the impression that so many of them fall in the category of “Blue Grass.”

I’ll grant the fact the world does change . . . often, and we need to adjust to changes. However, what is wrong with just accepting what God gives up. That is not always an easy thing to do (consider Hurricane Ian), but we do have to be careful on our responses (was abortions really a good answer for women who didn’t consider their baby a gift of God).

The need to make decisions correctly is imperative and leaving so many ‘Grass is blue’ decisions unchecked has troubled many of us.

Sometimes correct answers are hard to ascertain but times like our November election we have a chance to elect those who know just what color our grass is.
