October 20, 2022

The Mankato Chamber of Commerce met last Wednesday with seven members present.

Jason Ortman, president, called the meeting to order. Haley Nelson read the September minutes and gave the treasurer’s report. Both were approved.

Brian Shulda gave a brief update on the Community Garden. Everyone should have their plots ready to be tilled by Nov. 15. Everything went well this year and the chamber hopes to have another great Community Garden next year.

Haley Nelson gave an update on the 2023 birthday calendars. The calendars have been printed and will be sorted for delivery or pickup.

The Highway 36 Treasure Hunt took place Sept. 15 through 18. This year there were 11 booths rented with $260 in income from the booth rentals.

The chamber discussed the Downtown Trick-Or-Treat and Pumpkin Decorating Contest. The Trick-or-Treat will be downtown, at Jewell County Hospital and Jewell County Health Department from 3:30 to 5 p.m., on Oct. 31. The pumpkin decorating contest will also take place that day. Participants can drop off their decorated pumpkins from 10a.m. to 2:30 p.m., in front of the museum and pick them back up at 5 p.m., when winners are announced. Prizes will be given for first through third places. Individuals wanting to take place in Trunk-or-Treating should park on Commercial Street in front of the Pizza Hut Lot or on either side of the alley on the east side of the street.

Christmas in Mankato will take place Nov. 26. The shopping portion of the event will take place from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. So far there are 12 businesses participating. The 3rd Annual Christmas Tree Lighting will take place at the Mankato City Park at 7 p.m. Jason Ortman will serve hot chocolate and candy canes during the tree lighting again this year. Haley Nelson will make flyers to be sent to the city, go in the paper and be distributed around town. With the help of the City and the Chamber, the event is free to participate in this year.

The next regular monthly meeting will take place Nov. 9 at Bob’s.
