Jewell Thomas Murray, 82, Topeka, Kansas, died Tuesday, April 18, 2023.

Jewell was born July 21, 1940, in Boise, Idaho, the son of Earl and Lillian Severson Murray. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1958. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for four years. He was discharged in 1962 as a sergeant.

Jewell married Marilyn Carey in 1987 in Golden, Colorado. He retired from the Kansas Department of Transportation after more than 40 years. He enjoyed telling stories and time with his coffee group. Jewell had a passion for socializing with family and friends.

Jewell is survived by his wife, Marilyn; children, Thomas Hodges, Karen File, Brent Murray (Mandy) and Megan Ulmer (Joseph); 10 grandchildren; and his brother, Gordon Murray (Donna).

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation was 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 23, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka, Kansas. His funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. A graveside service was at 3 p.m., Monday in West Lutheran Cemetery, Southwest corner of US36 and 130th Road, Mankato, Kansas.
