Mary LaVerne Herbek, 96, of Hastings died June 2. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 this morning (Thursday) at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Deweese with Father Jamie Hottovy celebrating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery near Lawrence. Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings, is in charge of arrangements. Mary LaVerne was born Aug. 11, 1926, to Joseph and Mary (Graben-schroer) Krebsbach in Lawrence. She married Frank Herbek on June 1, 1948, and resided in Deweese. Mary was a homemaker and later the Deweese postmaster.

Survivors include her son, Robert (Jan) Herbek; grandchildren, Sara E. Herbek, Emily (Archie) Frezell, Christopher (Sarah) Herbek, Brett (Brittani) Herbek; great-grandchildren, Rylee, Major, Brighton, and Tate; and daughter-in-law, Jean Herbek.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; son, Dr. Eugene N. Herbek; and siblings: Victor, Ralph, Wilfred, George, Josephine, Irene, Stephane, Helena, and Sister Kathleen.
