The regular monthly meetings of the Nelson American Legion Post 187 Family was held Thursday at the Legion Clubhouse.

The deaths of Legion member Don Biltoft and of the wife of member Erik Russell were announced and special condolences extended to the families.

Other announcements were that the District 10 Fall Rally would be held Saturday, Sept. 16 at the Sutton American Legion. Members were invited to the Red Cloud Legion on Tuesday, Sept. 19 when a special award was presented to a 73 year Legion Member.

Also discussed was the tax status filing of the club and the possibility of replacing the rectangular tables in the clubhouse with lighter weight round tables.

During the break off meeting, the auxiliary officers for the year were officially installed. They are: Betty McCutchan, president; Betty Sauce vice-president; Carol Eckles, secretary; and DeAnna Tuttle, interim treasurer. Plans were made to hold the Second Annual Chili Cook-off on Sunday, Oct. 15, in conjunction with a football watch party. A Trunk or Treat event is planned for the Saturday before Halloween from 3 to 5 p.m. Last year’s event brought lots of smiles to children and was a lot of fun for those participating. It will be held on 4th Street just south of the Legion building. Check the Legion Facebook page as more information is available for these events.
