P.E.O. Chapter J Commemorates 9/11

September 21, 2023

P. E. O. Chapter J met in the Salem Lutheran Church fellowship hall on Monday, Sept. 11, with Carol Eckles and Jaynie Spirk serving as co-hostesses. President Sue VanSkiver reviewed the by-law changes that will be voted on at the national convention she will be attending later this month. Many of the changes are opposed by the membership and will be voted on accordingly. Members voted to continue the Adopt a Resident program at the P. E. O Home in Beatrice and signed up to remember the assigned resident on a specific month of the year. RSVPs for the Reciprocity Group luncheon in Superior on Saturday, Oct. 7 were requested. Member Piper Hodge is an officer of the group.

Following the business meeting, Diane Wehrman presented a moving and reflective program on the events of 9/11 and asked those present to share where they were and how they felt on that memorable day. Many were at their workplace but were able to view the events after the first tower was hit and the news reported, and shared the fear and sadness felt in the workplace. Needless to say work schedules were suspended during the attacks.

The next regular meeting will be held on Monday, Sept. 25, with Dana Epley and Steph Thayer serving as hostesses and presenting the program.
