More volunteers needed to run theater

The Jewell County Cinema, Inc. (JCCI) Board met last Monday, at the Mankato Christian Church and on ZOOM. Members present were: Thadd Hinkle, Janelle Greene, Phyllis Christie, Janis McDill, Sarah Ortman, Virgil and Linda Jones, and Kristin Underwood in person with Lisa Goodheart present on ZOOM.

Janis McDill presented the treasurer’s report. She found she had mailed one movie payment to the wrong address but has corrected it.

Phyllis Christie was asked to contact the gentleman in Hastings about repairing the marquee. She said she would work with Thadd Hinkle to see what parts they already have to work with. The popcorn machine kettle connection has been repaired.

There was no formal annual meeting, so the officers for 2024 remain the same: Thadd Hinkle, president; Kristin Underwood, vice-president; Lisa Goodheart, secretary; Janis McDill, treasurer. More volunteers are needed to run the theater.

Kristin Underwood said the downtown Christmas event on Friday, Nov. 24 includes a window decorating contest and asked the board if the Ute could be included. The motion carried with one nay, two abstentions and six yays. Sarah Ortman will research ideas. Phyllis asked if the board wanted to show a free movie on Friday, Nov. 24. She suggested “Beethoven’s Christmas Adventure” on DVD. The board approved to show a free movie at 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 24. The board also approved the movie for Nov. 25 and 26 to be shown at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 25 and at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 26. The board approved to provide certificates for free popcorn as stocking stuffers for the Stocking Stroll on Friday, Nov. 24. Sarah asked if the Elementary School could show a DVD movie for a $50 donation on Dec. 15 if the school wants to do that.

Upcoming movies are “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “The Marvels” for two weekends and “Gran Turismo.” Janis McDill is looking into getting “Wish,” “The Blind,” “Journey to Bethlehem,” “Trolls” and “The Holdovers.”
