Letter to Alumni

February 8, 2024

Dear Alumni of Nelson High School, Lawrence High School and

Lawrence-Nelson High School,

We hope that you have spent a joyous holiday season with friends, family and loved ones. As we turn the calendar into 2024, we take the opportunity to reflect on the past, as well as prepare for the future of the alumni activities for our group. In recent years we have seen changes to the alumni groups in our area. We have also seen recent changes to the Lawrence-Nelson school system as they begin their journey as an independent school district following the current school year.

With the many changes that have occurred in recent years, the alumni committee has evaluated options to work to bring all the alumni under one umbrella to improve continuity and ensure long term viability of the organization. We are striving to honor the Lawrence Alumni, Nelson Alumni and Lawrence-Nelson Alumni. We have listened to many ideas from alumni of all three schools to accomplish this goal.

In recent years, there has been an annual event which has been organized as an alumni golf tournament. Following that event there is a social event which includes a meal and entertainment. The event has continued to gain in popularity and is well attended by alumni of Lawrence, Nelson and Lawrence-Nelson. After discussions with the founder of the golf tournament, we have decided to bring the golf tournament into the Lawrence-Nelson Alumni committee and move alumni activities to align. For this year we are planning to have the Lawrence-Nelson Alumni Golf Tournament on May 18, with a meal, social hour and entertainment to follow. The golf tournament will be at the Elk Creek Country Club in Nelson and the post tournament meal will be at a location to be determined. This event will replace the traditional banquet. The following day, May 19, we will host smaller social events in each town to allow alumni from Lawrence and Nelson to socialize.

If you have any questions, please contact any member of the alumni committee to discuss. We understand that change is difficult, but we believe this is the best solution to ensure longevity for the organization and provide support for the Lawrence-Nelson School District.

Sincerely,

2024 Lawrence-Nelson

Alumni Committee

Shane Frahm, vice president
