Matt Thompson

Matthew Alan Thompson, the son of Kenneth and Linda (Collins) Thompson, was born on July 19, 1978, in Hamburg, Iowa. He died on April 22, 2024, at the Brodstone Healthcare at Superior, Nebraska, at the age of 45 years, 9 months, 3 days.

After his mom’s death, when he was seven years old, he was lovingly raised by his grandparents, Raymond and Hazel Collins, in Sidney, Iowa. In 2002, Matt and his daughter, Britnie, moved to Nelson, Nebraska, where he met his wife and her two sons. To this marriage two daughters were born.

Matthew held many jobs in his life but his passion was law enforcement. He was a police officer in Superior and Auburn and was a deputy for the Nuckolls County Sheriff’s office. He enjoyed helping people more than anything. People would come knock on the door day and night and he would help them every time. When he resigned from law enforcement, he found out he had DIP lung disease.

Matt enjoyed movies, playing video games with the boys, fishing, anime and listening to his music. He was proud of his sons and didn’t miss a football game or wrestling meet. Matt’s daughters were his little princesses and no one could tell him otherwise.

Matt taught Ju Jitsu to children for several years when living in Fairbury. Rarely was there a Friday or Saturday night where MMA wasn’t on his television.

Matt was preceded in death by his mother, Linda; a sister who died at birth; and his grandparents, Raymond and Hazel Collins.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Karie of Superior; his sons, Damion and Darik Holt; daughters, Britnie, Grace and her fiancé, Isaac Hathaway, and Safiya. He also has several cousins, aunts and uncles who will miss him deeply as well.

His funeral will be held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, May 4, at the Hardy Fire Hall, Hardy, Nebraska.

Condolences may be sent to Megrue-Price Funeral Home, 750 N Commercial, Superior, Nebraska 68978 or in care of http://www.price funeralhomes.com.
