2020 Election Historic in Numbers

The 2020 general election for the United States was held a last Tuesday. Interest was high and across the nation, voters turned out in record numbers.

In Nebraska, unofficial results indicate that 88,279 more Nebraskans voted this year than in 2016. The year 2020 will go down in history with almost 75 percent of the registered voters, actually voting. In 2016 actual voters were 71 percent of the registered voters.

A lot of voters will also be glad to know that we Nebraskans have also eliminated slavery as a means of punishment for the conviction of a crime.

We’ll give a little breakdown of the vote.

U. S. President: Statewide: Trump had 548,480 votes; Biden 366,910; or

59 percent to 39 percent. Nuckolls County: Trump 1851, 80.5 percent; Biden 409, 17.8 percent.

U. S. Senate: Statewide: Sasse 68 percent, others 32 percent; Nuckolls County: Sasse: 82 percent; others 18 percent.

U. S. House of Representatives: Statewide: Smith 78.5 percent; others: 21.5 percent; Nuckolls County: Smith: 85 percent, others: 15 percent.

Results of local interest are:

Co. Commissioner, Dist. #2: David Mussmann 595; write-in: 4.

Little Blue NRD: Lyle Schroer 901; write-in: 3.

Nelson City Council: Charles Tuttle 167; Tammy Frahm-Thayer 177.

Lawrence Village Board of Trustees: Sara Griffis 138; Brett Peterson 141; Terry Cox 133.

Ruskin Village Board of Trustees: Mark Eggers 42; Nathan Brandt 49, Brock Corman 44.

Oak Village Board of Trustees: Derrick Drohman 25; Write-in, Richard Lowery 5; other write-ins: 6.

Nora Village Board of Trustees: Margo Williams 12; David Gebers 10.

L-N School Board: Philip Brockman 556; Lance Williams 589; David Ochsner 271; Philip Janda 568.

Sandy Creek School Board: Donita Furman 15; Cheryl Brockman 26.

City of Nelson Ordinance No. 869, to establish and conduct a City Lottery for Community Betterment: For 193; Against 72.

State Initiative #428: protection against “Payday Lender” charging more than 36 percent interest: For 1,612; Against: 419.

Initiative Measures 429, 430 and 431: Allow more ‘Expanded Gambling in Nebraska’. All three passed in Nebraska and in Nuckolls County: #429:

For 1,164, Against 986; #430: For 1,187, Against 970; #431: For 1235, Against 915.

Constitution Amendment #1: eliminate slavery as a punishment for conviction of a crime. For 1,100, Against 907.

Constitution Amendment #2: extending repayment of debt related to tax-increment financing from 15 to 20 years. For 1,043; Against 876.

A breakdown of voting in surrounding counties follows:

Adams 19,890 registered; 14,818 votes; 74.5 percent.

Clay: 4,275 registered; 3,608 votes; 84.4 percent.

Nuckolls: 3,230 registered; 2,329 votes; 72.1 percent.

Webster: 2,289 registered; 1,891 votes; 82.6 percent.
