My Crazy Life

January 14, 2021

Almost every year for the past nine years, George and I have been in Omaha many a new year. Whether it be for the end of the year meetings or our visitations with the boys, we have often found ourselves in Omaha. This year the boys came here, and George had no end of the year meeting to attend, so we stayed home. I hoped this would be the year we would go out for my birthday, January 19, but we decided to go while the getting was good in lieu of recent events and the possibility of another shutdown.

We needed a date night. Who knows what’s going to happen before Jan. 19. Once again, we found ourselves in Omaha right after the new year. We went out for an overpriced dinner, stayed in an overpriced hotel, and stood in line for almost an hour for overpriced cheesecake. LOL! I bet we looked like the cutest couple, walking arm and arm everywhere. In reality, George was holding me up, so I didn’t bump into anyone or fall. I’m still having bouts of vertigo, and my doctor is sending me elsewhere. I guess he is tired of me, LOL!

Then we did something I have never done before. We went to the casino. The table games were all full. That didn’t matter because I had no idea how to play any of those games. I played penny slots and nickel slots and lost $21. I was so bored pushing that button by the fifth time, I just bet it all on one final button push. I don’t know how folks can sit at those things for hours on end. Plus, I’m mad at myself for losing three-quarters of a tank of gas!

In the end, it was a great night. We had a lot of laughs and enjoyed each other’s company. I learned a few things too. I don’t like gambling! I’d rather have a steak at one of my local pubs. Cheesecake is always worth the wait, but I already knew this. And finally, time alone with my hubby is worth its weight in gold! But I already knew that as well. X’s & O’s!
