My Crazy Life

March 11, 2021

We have begun spring yard work at our house on Fourth Street. Ten years ago, it would have been an easy task and finished in a three-day weekend. That is not the case anymore. Honestly, if my husband and son weren’t helping, I would probably work until I dropped dead trying to get it done, but they remind me that “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” The idea is to have a blank slate that we can easily mow and maintain while we are working on the interior of the home.

I tend to go into projects, big and small, guns blazing! When I want something, I wanted it yesterday! That drive tends to make most people crazy and is the reason I’m in the shape I am now. What makes me crazy is I have the motivation and the ability to do it, just not the stamina. At least I know my faults and can admit them. I’ve been told I can be a bit of a micro-manager and pushy. I prefer to call it organized and focused!

I made the hubby look at linoleum samples with me. He hates linoleum! He would like vinyl plank flooring. I joke with him that we are not vinyl flooring rich but linoleum poor. I’ve also been accused of being cheap. I choose to call it frugal. Honestly, we are more than likely going with the vinyl plank. I’m not happy about spending an extra dollar per square foot, but I don’t think linoleum will hold up to my brood. My hope is that once we have all this done, we won’t have to do it again.

Although we are a long way from paint and floor samples, planning gives me something to look forward to. I made a vision board for the kitchen and bath in this house. The board changed a bit with our budget. For example, the countertops were not what I had envisioned but were the right price. Although I couldn’t have everything exactly as I had first planned, we still came close. That vision board kept me going.

I’m doing my best to deal with the task that’s right in front of my face. Somedays that proves more difficult than others. Every day now, mowing season gets closer, and I have flashbacks to last year when the flower bed took over the back yard and was shoulder height. I’m hoping that doesn’t happen this year or ever again.

To all of you with big plans this summer, remember to take some time to relax and enjoy your crazy life. “Rome wasn’t built in a day!” X’s & O’s.
