Nuckolls Co. seniors graduate Saturday

SHS graduation

Superior High School will graduate its 134th class Saturday, in the high school gymnasium. The ceremony for the 25 seniors is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Each graduate is allowed to have 10 guests in attendance. Masks are mandatory.

The Superior High School concert Band, under the direction of Allison White, will perform the processional followed by the National Anthem.

Bob Cook, high school principal, will recognize academic accomplishments.

The senior musical selection is "There Goes My Life" by Kenny Chesney. The senior video will follow.

There are lots of ways to celebrate oneʼs high school graduation. Graduation festivities neither begin nor end with the graduateʼs formal commencement program. It is now common for families to host receptions following the formal graduation program. Because of scheduling conflicts, some families host pre-commencement events. At least one member of a Nuckolls County Class of 2021 began his graduation celebration on Sunday by riding a mechanical bull. The bull was set up in a near downtown Superior yard (Sixth and Central) on Sunday. John Hecker is pictured riding the bull. He is slated to graduate from the Lawrence-Nelson High School on Saturday afternoon.

Marty Kobza, superintendent of Superior Schools, will present the class to the board of education. The board is comprised of Matt Sullivan, president, Peggy Meyer, vice-president, Brad Biltoft, secretary, Luke Meyers, Jason Jensen and Matt Bargen.

Sullivan will present the graduates with their diplomas. The recessional will be "Tongue Tied" by Grouplove. Sara Fuller and Melissa Schuster are the class sponsors.

Members of the Class of 2021 are Marshall Baumbach, Sierra Blackburn, Conner Blackstone, Robert Brockhaus, Zoie Cornell, Alexa Cox, Kaylee Flaata, Tia Gonzales-Hunter, Jacob Helwick-Schnell, Elijah Heusinkvelt, Todd Keifer, Jackson Kuhlmann, Aric J. Leibel, Janison Morris, Ezekiel Meyer, Kiara Mikkelsen, Raven Holland, Reagan Simpkins, Jetta Sunday, Morgan Theis, Jedd Whitmore, Weslynn Williams, Tylese Yanez, Blake Young and Taran Zoltenko.

Baccalaureate was long a part of the graduation week activities for members of the Superior High School graduating class and though the service is no longer sponsored by the school, it continues to be part of the seniors' final week that this year will culminate with the commencement service on Saturday afternoon.

This year the Nuckolls County Ministerial Association sponsored a senior baccalaureate service at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The service was held in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Natalie Faust delivering the message.
