Superior Boys Track Team wins District C-7 Championship trophy

 

The District C-7 Track Meet was hosted by Thayer Central High School Thursday. The Superior boys team came home with the championship trophy after scoring 91 points, 20 more than the second place team. This was accomplished with three firsts, three seconds, two thirds, four fourths, four fifths, and one sixth. Five team members qualified for state: Dane Miller, Clayton Morris, Elijah Heusinkvelt, A. J. Leibel and Taran Zoltenko. “Whole team effort” won out again! Several young men who didn’t qualify for state contributed toward the team championship! Way to go, guys!

The team scores are as follows: 1) Superior – 91; 2) Thayer Central - 71; 3) Doniphan-Trumbull – 64; 4) Fillmore Central – 59; 5) Sutton – 51; 6) Hastings St. Cecilia – 50; 7) Southern Valley – 44; 8 Heartland – 36; 9) Sandy Creek – 32; 10) Blue Hill – 29.

Boys High Jump: 1) Micah Biltoft, Sandy Creek – 6-05.00

Boys Pole Vault: 1) Conner Nun, Fillmore Central – 14-03.00; 2) Clayton Morris, Superior - 12-05.00; 5) James Love, Superior – 10-05.00.

Boys Long Jump: 1) Myles Sadd, Doniphan-Trumbull – 20-10.50; 4) Elijah Heusinkvelt, Superior – 19-10.50; 5) Taran Zoltenko, Superior – 18-11.50; 13) Matt Colgrove, Superior – 16-11.50.

Boys Triple Jump: 1) Clayton Berry, Southern Valley – 41-02.50; 3) Elijah Heusinkvelt, Superior – 38-10.50.

Boys 110 Meter Hurdles: 1) Clayton Berry, Southern Valley – 15.23; 2) Dane Miller, Superior – 15.68; 6) James Love, Superior – 18.28.

Boys 300 Meter Hurdles: 1) Dane Miller, Superior – 40.53; 10) James Love, 48.26; 12) Aiden Humphries, Superior – 50.73.

Boys 4X100 Meter Relay: 1) Superior, 45.01 (Taran Zoltenko, Dane Miller, Clayton Morris, Elijah Heusinkvelt).

Boys 4X400 Meter Relay: 1) Sutton – 3:35.41.

Boys 4X800 Meter Relay: 1) Sutton – 8:26.14; 5) Superior – 9:44.84 (Gavin Ekstein, Brett Miller, Tanner Theis, Matt Colgrove).

The Superior Girls Track Team did well, too. They placed fourth as a team with 71 points. This was accomplished by scoring four firsts, three seconds, two thirds, one fifth and one sixth. Four team members qualified for State: Ella Gardner, Shayla Meyer, Sadie Rempel and Atlee Kobza.

Numerous track team members on Friday were excited to tell people about the team accomplishments! Dane Miller said, “It’s been a long time since Superior won a district track championship!” Shayla Meyer showed her “team support” and said, “I’m so excited that Atlee Kobza decided to pump a personal best discus throw at district! That made my day! I’ll have a teammate throwing with me in Omaha!”
