Rose Ellen Plock, 78, of Deshler, died Friday, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln.

Rose was born to Carl and Erna (Eilers) Hinz on Sept. 9, 1942, on the family farm near Nora. Rose attended country school, Nelson Grade School and graduated from Ruskin High School in 1960.

After graduation, she moved to Wichita Falls, Texas. She worked as a

carhop, where she met and married her husband of 22 years, John Leonard Helgeson. The union was blessed with four children. The family moved to Minnesota and Nebraska. Rose worked at Hoffman’s packing rice, a local locker plant, and at Reinke’s as a welder for 28 years, and a part-time cleaning position at the post office. It was at Reinke’s that she met her second husband of 29 years, Larry Eugene Plock. Larry had two grown children from a previous marriage who she cared for as her own.

Rose enjoyed visiting with family and friends, quilting, gardening, picking wild fruit and canning, watching her Christmas cacti and flowers in the yard bloom, riding the utility vehicle around town, baking treats for family holidays and the North Carolina hunters, going to auctions, playing cards and bidding on her partner, her cruise with Larry to Alaska, and trips to Minnesota. She was an active member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church and their quilting women’s group.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sibling; four brothers: Eldred Hinz, Raymond Hinz, James Hinz, Leroy Hinz; two sisters: Margie Zoch and Gertrude Brandt; and her first husband, John Leonard Helgeson.

Rose is survived by her husband, Larry Plock of Deshler; three daughters: Suzette Schulze of Chandler, Ariz.; Janette Anderson of Phillipsburg, Kan.; Natalie Bruchhauser of Gilbert, Ariz.; one son: John Helgeson Jr. of Shoreline, Wash.; two stepsons: John Plock of Shickley; Christopher Plock of Lincoln, Neb.; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Darlene Medina and Shirley Hinz.

Her funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m., today, Thursday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Deshler. Interment will be in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery. Price-Urbauer-Ahrendts Funeral Home
