Winona Henk

Winona L. Henk, 71, of Murdock, Neb., died Wednesday, July 28, at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha. Winona was born Dec. 2, 1949, to Harold and Ruth Barbara (Lempka) Jeffery in Beatrice, Neb.

In 1967, she graduated from Lewiston High School, and later obtained an associate’s degree in bookkeeping from the Lincoln School of Commerce. She married Steven A. Henk on June 19, 1970, in Lincoln, Neb. Together they raised Jeremy, Travis and Amber.

Winona was a hard worker. For many years, she ran an in-home day care. She later owned the dry cleaners in Superior. After moving to the Murdock area, she worked at LaPetite Day Care and later as the finance office manager at Super Saver in Omaha. 

She was involved in church, acting as the Sunday school superintendent, and staying active with the United Methodist Women’s organization. While in Superior, she was a member of the Eastern Star. She was a devoted wife and mother and never missed an opportunity to attend the various events her children and grandchildren participated in. 

Winona is survived by her husband, Steve Henk of Murdock; children, Jeremy “Jey”Henk of Crested Butte, Colo., Travis Harold Henk of Murdock, and Amber Burke, Omaha; brothers, Jim Thies of Lewiston, Dan Thies of Beatrice, Jack Thies of Beatrice, Ron Jeffery of Virginia; and sister, Pamela “P.J.” Jeffery of Tecumseh. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Gena Jeffery; sister, Ruth Ann Fritz; and infant brother. Robert Jeffery.

Her funeral was held Saturday, July 31, at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Murdock.

Burial was at the Crab Orchard Cemetery in Crab Orchard, Neb.

Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation to the ALS Association, Ebenezer United Methodist Church or Josie Harper Hospice House.
