Olga Marie Reinke, 94, of Davenport, died Aug. 23, at Thayer County Health Services in Hebron. Olga was born Nov.11, 1926 near Byron, to John and Katherina (Meinke) Kniep.

Olga lived most of her growing up years near Byron. She was baptized, confirmed and married in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, rural Byron. During the depression, the Kniep family moved to California twice, so she attended first grade in California. The rest of her eighth grade education was in Lone Star District No. 75 School.

Olga was her sickly mother’s helper until her marriage to Werner Walther

Reinke on Aug. 17, 1947, and they moved to rural Oak. Their first three children were born in a drafty rental house, but in 1953 they moved into their own home, built by Werner where three more children were born.

Olga was a homemaker, gardener, and famer’s helper until Werner’s retirement in 1980, and they moved to Davenport. She took painting lessons and blessed the family with many beautiful scenes. She also crocheted many afghans, baby blankets and sundry other items, most of which she gave away. She claims she learned to cook from Werner! She liked to play cards, pitch in particular. She and Werner took many trips around the country. Especially, she enjoyed their fishing trips to

Minnesota with friends.

After Werner’s death, she frequented the Senior Center in Davenport and made ample use of the local library. Reading her Bible and Christian fiction became her pastimes in later years.

Preceding Olga in death was her husband, Werner Reinke; son, David

Reinke; and an infant son.

She is survived by her children, daughter, Mrs. Michael Sivey (Judy), Eagle, Idaho; daughter, Donna Meyer, Davenport; daughter, Mrs. Gary Haake (Karen), Oak; son, Stanley Reinke, Edgar; and daughter, Mrs. James West (Mary), Malcolm, Neb.; 21 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service with public viewing was held Monday, Aug. 30, at St. Peters Lutheran Cemetery in Davenport. Her funeral was held at St. Peters Lutheran Church following the interment.
