SHS volleyball heads to district play

The Superior High School volleyball team took second place at the Southern Nebraska Conference tournament when they fell to Class C-1 Fairbury, 25-21, 25-23, 18-25 and 18-25, at Milford Thursday. The Wildcats opened sub-district play at Superior Monday. They swept Sandy Creek in three sets, 25-16, 25-19 and 25-8. They faced off against Sutton in the final round of sub-district play Tuesday, at Superior. Results of the match were unavailable at press time.

Shayla Meyer topped the Wildcats kill list with 28 against Fairbury. Teegan Duncan added six kills. Cailyn Barry came away with four kills. Brooklyn Grabast and Madison Heusinkvelt were good for three kills each. Ella Gardner slashed through two aces. Duncan and Heusinkvelt each scored with an ace. Atlee Kobza led the diggers with 15. Meyer lobbed up 12 digs. Gardner handled nine digs. Sadie Rempel contributed four digs. Barry and Duncan hoisted up three digs each.

Statistics were unavailable for the Sandy Creek match at press time.

No matter the outcome of Tuesday's match, Superior will advance to the district final. They stand in third place with wildcard points. A loss to Sutton would still see Superior advance. The district final which will be played Saturday.

The site of the district final is to be determined. The Nebraska School Activities web site will have updated information as to opponent and match location.
