The “Liberal Left” whom I often equate with the “Democratic Party” has been on quite a run for some time condemning state legislatures for making changes in voting laws. (I don’t know if it is fair to list only Democrats as equals to the Liberal Left as I know there are many others, like Socialist, Communist, Atheists, etc.)

However, I bring this up this week for two reasons. The first reason is short and sweet: our 2022 primary election is getting very close now. Secondly, I have heard of the Democrats objecting to state changes in election laws but was never quite sure what their objections were.

I’ve looked at a number of places trying to find their objection and I came up with a list of (I think it was a list of 20) objections. At the top of the list was their objection to a voter I D requirement.

Of all the objections this seemed to be the most popular and consistent.

Now, as I mentioned before, I do receive a number of un-solicited messages most every day on my email. A couple of weeks ago I received one I found interesting. It was not about voter ID requirement, but connected to the ID issue.

Our old friend . . . the “Internal Revenue Service,” is going to require “Facial Recognition” to view tax returns.

It seems the IRS has partnered with a Virginia-based private identification firm which requires a facial recognition selfie among other things, in order to create or access online accounts with the agency.

It goes on to say that by the summer of 2022, the only way to log into the IRS will be through this facial recognition ID program. It seems that some 27 states already use this ID method to screen for identifying thieves applying for benefits in someone else’s name.

The author of this article decided to try out this ID system even after being warned “it may require a significant investment of time, and quite a bit of patience.”

The system required a driver’s license or other government-issued ID, copies of utility or insurance bills, info about their mobile phone service, a phone “selfie” photo and maybe other information.

Well, the estimated wait time given him was three hours and 27 minutes.

(That’s assuming you have a smart phone and can take a selfie, which I know the majority of folks do have, but quite a few do not.)

If they can create a system to stop identity thieves, that’s great, but that three and one-half hour effort to set up the program ? ? ?

I bring this up, not to judge the IRS and this program, but to help put this voter ID question into perspective.

I’m sure some might question my contention that the right to protect your voting privilege is at least as important as protecting your money handled by the IRS, but I feel it is. If the IRS is going to all the expense for this facial recognition system, shouldn’t state government be allowed to require something as simple as an ID card of some kind to vote ? ? ? ?

Most everyone is required to have an ID for most everything from registering to stay at many motels for a night to buying alcohol or some medicine to almost everything we do in today’s world. (In fact, several years ago I was buying a flower plant to put in my garden and when I used my credit card to purchase it, I was asked for a picture ID.)

It seems many a Democrat wants some sort of a federally operated voting system in the U. S. However, for whatever reasons they may have, I suggest we stick with our old system of having the states conduct the election process. The job was given to the states in the Constitution and, although they have not always done the best job, they do a pretty good job of it.

Letting the states control the elections is but just one way that helps us from being operated primarily by a federal government system. That system is often called a Socialistic government.

There are many things the federal government maybe should do. For example, in the 1960s with the voting rights law that was needed to stop the discrimination against black voters in many southern states.

One of the things I get most upset over is that the national media so often uses the phrase: “Republican Voter suppression laws passed by the States.”

They use it as if it was a fact that Republicans have actually passed voter suppression laws in the states, when there has been no facts that support that case. I haven’t seen every instance of their claims, but so many of them start with a requirement for a voter ID requirement.

Many of the objections by the Democrats are about things that may be different, but not about any real suppression.

I am somewhat amused at the stance the Democrats have taken with the voter ID question. The Democrats seem to want to control most “everything” from the federal government level. However, this question of voter ID, they object to.

If we would somehow go to a federal operated voting system, just how long do you think it would take before an ID would be require ? ? ?

I’ve read about socialist governments and they require an OK from the government for everything from housing to buying food to . . . whatever.

Please voters, considering the elections coming up, give thought to who you are voting for and what they think, not only about voting rights, but the extent that government should reach into our lives as well.
