March 3, 2022
The Superior High School boys basketball team saw their road to the state tournament swept away with a 59-26 loss to Hastings St. Cecelia at Hastings last Tuesday. The loss snapped a four game win streak for the Wildcats. They finished the season with a 6-18 record.
Once again, the Wildcats played a competitive two quarters against the Bluehawks, only trailing 24-19 at the half. Unfortunately, they were out pointed 37-9 in the last two quarters.
Seniors Dane Miller, Taygun Rothchild and Seth Schnakenberg played their final game in a Wildcat uniform.
Miller led the Superior scoring with 15 points in his career finale. Schnakenberg hit for five points in his career final game. Rothchild put up two points in his last outing for Superior. Ashton Grassman and Jacob Meyer contributed two points apiece.
Miller went up for 10 rebounds. Schnakenberg brought down five rebounds. Grassman nabbed four rebounds. Meyer held onto three rebounds. Tanner Theis grabbed two rebounds.
The future looks bright for the Wildcats despite the loss of three experienced senior players. There will be 17 underclassmen who acquired playing experience on the junior varsity and varsity levels to fill out the roster next season if they all return.
