SHS track teams shine at conference meet

 


The Superior High School boys and girls track and field teams competed at the Southern Nebraska Conference meet at Fairbury High School last Tuesday. The boys team finished in second place, with 78 points, in the 11 team field of Centennial, Fairbury, Sandy Creek, Milford, Sutton, Thayer Central, Wilber-Clatonia, David City, Fillmore Central and Heartland Community. The girls team was in third place with 63 points.

The Sutton Invitational, scheduled for Thursday, was cancelled because of inclement weather conditions.

Matt Colgrove ran a preliminary 100 meter dash heat in 12.1 seconds. Aiden Humphries had a time of 12.28 seconds. Cristian Avalos was timed at 12.74 seconds.

Clayton Morris recorded a preliminary 200 meter dash heat of 25.88 seconds. Dylan Edwards finished his heat in 29.55 seconds. Thomas Mathis was done in 30.04 seconds.

Gavin Ekstein earned a sixth place finish in the 400 meter dash with his time of 54.45 seconds. Colgrove had a time of 57.1 seconds. Tanner Theis posted a time of 1:03.71.

Brett Miller was in eighth place in the 800 meter run with his time of 2:20.01. Theis was across the finish line in 2:31.72.

Hunter Mazzulla finished the 1600 meter run in 5:25.83. Miller was over the line in 5:24.9. Derek Kirchhoff has a time of 6:22.37.

Mazzulla hauled in fifth place in the 3200 meter run with his time of 11:10.66.

Dane Miller possessed first place in the 110 meter hurdles with his time of 15.09 seconds. He added another first place finish in the 300 meter hurdles with the time of 41.53 seconds. Humphries had a time of 47.29 seconds.

The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Colgrove, Ekstein, Humphries and D. Miller held down first place with their time of 45.01 seconds.

The 4 x 400 meter relay team of Colgrove, Jacob Meyer, Ekstein and D. Miller was in second place with their time of 3:42.21.

The 4 x 800 meter relay team of Mazzulla, Meyer, Theis and B. Miller finished in fourth place with their time of 9:39.36.

Seth Schnakenberg earned the second place points in the shot put with his toss of 52'5.5". Payton Christiancy was in seventh place with his toss of 44'3.25". Luke Jameson had a best throw of 39'9".

Christiancy had a best throw of 117'3" for the discus.

Morris took second place in the pole vault when he cleared 11'8".

Ekstein held seventh place in the long jump at 18'8". Meyer had a leap of `17'. Avalos recorded a jump of 15'11.

Meyer was in fifth place in the triple jump at 38'7.5". Dylan Edwards covered 30;6". Mathis covered 26'2".

Ella Gardner was in second place in the girls 100 meter dash with her time of 13.05 seconds. Sadie Rempel was in eighth place with her time of 14.05 seconds. Sadie Cornell had a time of 15.16 seconds.

Gardner led the field to first place in the 200 meter dash with her time of 14.05 seconds. Rempel finished at 30.52 seconds.

Faith Butler recorded a time of 1:08.72 for the 400 meter dash. Halle Bargen was over the line in 1:12.04. Brooklyn Grabast had a time of 1:18.21.

Butler was in eighth place in the 800 meter run with her time of 2:52.23. Laci Kirchhoff came across the line in 2:57.87.

Rebecca Tadeo-Perez listed a time of 7:29.85 for the 1600 meter run.

Hailey Blecha finished the 3200 meter run in 15:32.84.

Mikynzie Hansen ran the 100 meter hurdles in 19.92 seconds.

Madison Heusinkvelt was in seventh place in the 300 meter hurdles with her time of 54.34 seconds. Cayce Barry listed a time of 1:02.27.

The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Heusinkvelt, Rempel, Bargen and Atlee Kobza finished in fifth place with their time of 55.02 seconds.

The 4 x 400 meter relay team of Kirchhoff, Kobza, Bargen and Butler landed seventh place with their time of 4:41.37.

Shayla Meyer was the winner of the shot put with her toss of 36". Heusinkvelt had a best toss of 33'2.5". Mia Gardner had a 29"10.5" effort.

Meyer reeled in first place points in the discus with her throw of 142'. Kobza picked up fourth place points with her throw of 111'3". Heusinkvelt had a throw of 87'.

Sadie Rempel locked up first place in the pole vault with her bar clearing effort of 10'6".

E. Gardner picked up first place in the long jump at 18'.25". Cornell was sitting in fifth place with her jump of 14"5.25". Bargen had a jump of 13'1".

E. Gardner added another first place finish to her impressive total with her win in the triple jump at 35'5". Kirchhoff was in sixth place with her distance of 30'6". Hansen covered 28'8".

Superior hosts the District C-7 meet at the wildcat Community Track today (Thursday). Wildcat team members will be looking to qualify for a place at the state meet at Harry A. Burke High School, Omaha. May 20-21.
