L-N boys golf off to state match

The Lawrence-Nelson boys golf team took to the Franklin Golf Course in Franklin Monday for the 18-hole Class D-1 state qualifying match.

The Raiders came home with a second place play-off finish and three top 10 individual medals.

Lawrence-Nelson finished tied with Thayer Central in second place with a team score of 373. The tie forced a one-hole playoff to determine which team would claim the honor of second place. The first three teams qualify for the state match so nothing was at stake but school pride and bragging rights. The four lowest scorers from each team played the extra hole. The four Lawrence-Nelson players completed the playoff hole in 18 strokes while Thayer Central rook 21.

Connor Janda, a sophomore, led the Raiders with a round of 90. Toby Kotinek, a junior, was in with a round of 91. Bayln Bargen, a sophomore, carded a round of 92. Wyatt Brockman, the lone senior playing, had a round of 100. Krayton Kucera posted a round of 100. The four lowest scores comprise the team score.

Janda’s round put him in seventh place in the individual standings. Kotinek held ninth place while Bargen sat in 10th place.

Other schools at the match were Loomis, Elm Creek, Friend, Franklin, Red Cloud, Wilcox-Hildreth, Bruning-Davenport-Shickley, Exeter-Milligan, Blue Hill, Axtell, Deshler, Silver Lake and Lewiston.

The Class D state match was played Monday and Tuesday over the Lake Maloney Golf Club at North Platte. Match results were unavailable at press time.
