SHS volleyball goes 1-2 for the week

It was not the best of weeks for the Superior High School volleyball team as they dropped two of their three matches. The Sutton Mustangs swept Superior, 21-25-20-25 and 22-25, in three sets, at Sutton last Tuesday. It was a mixed bag at the Blue Hill triangular match, Saturday. Superior handed host Blue Hill a two-set, 25-11 and 25-19, loss. The Alma Cardinals handed the Wildcats a two-set, 13-25 and 18-26, loss. Superior visited Fairbury, Tuesday, with match results were unavailable at press time.

Teegan Duncan and Madison Heusinkvelt posted eight kill apiece for Superior against Sutton. Halle Bargen pounded down seven kills. Lilly Edwards put down three kills. Ella Gardner and Brooklynn Grabast tallied two kills each. Atlee Kobza had one kill. E. Gardner and Heusinkvelt threaded the defensive needle for two aces each. Bargen scored with an ace. Bargen cleared the deck for 20 digs. Kobza contributed 17 digs. Duncan and Gardner accounted for eight digs each.

Duncan topped the killer list against Blue Hill with six. Bargen and Heusinkvelt notched five kills apiece. Edwards and Grabast added two kills apiece. Duncan, E. Gardner and Mia Gardner each scored an ace. Kobza topped the diggers with 15. Bargen listed 10 digs. Duncan acquired seven digs. M. Gardner counted four digs for the match. E. Gardner came up with three digs. Ariana Heusinkvelt and M. Heusinkvelt had one dig each.

Grabast and M. Heusinkvelt handed in three kills each against Alma. Bargen, Duncan and Edwards added two kills apiece. Bargen, A. Heusinkvelt and Kobza each scored with an ace. Duncan and Kobza led the diggers with 11 each. Bargen came through with nine digs. E. Gardner gathered in five digs. M. Gardner landed four digs. A. Heusinkvelt had two digs while Edward had one.

The Wildcats travel to Hastings, Saturday, to compete against three other teams at the Adams Central Tournament. Superior returns to Hastings, Tuesday, for first round play at the Hastings St. Cecilia Tournament.
