L-N volleyball goes 1-2 for the week

The Lawrence-Nelson Raiders volleyball team continues to work their way through a tough schedule with mixed results. The Raiders downed the Fillmore Central Panthers in two sets, 25-15 and 25-19, last Tuesday, at Geneva in a triangular match. They fell to the Thayer Central Titans, 22-25 and 22-25, in two closely fought sets. Thayer Central and Fillmore Central are both C-2 schools. The Raiders dropped a four set match, 25-17, 21-25, 13-25 and 17-25, to Silver Lake at Roseland Thursday. Lawrence-Nelson played their opening round match of the Hastings St. Cecilia Tournament Tuesday. Match results were unavailable at press time.

Kara Menke and Hanna Skinner led the killers against Fillmore Central with six apiece. Sydney Biltoft punched down four kills. Emily Troudt put down three kills. Katelyn Mazour added two kills. Skinner lashed through three aces. Biltoft, Mazour, Menke and Troudt each scored with an ace. Jessica Sole posted seven digs. Menke lifted up six digs. Skinner added five digs. Claire Himmelberg listed four digs for the match. Biltoft and Addi McCloskey handled three digs each. Troudt had two digs.

Himmelberg was the lead killer against Thayer Central with five. Biltoft, Menke and Troudt accounted for four kills each. Mazour added three kills. Skinner took care of two kills. Skinner slashed through two aces. Himmelberg, Menke and Troudt each scored an ace. Mazour contributed 12 digs. Himmelberg put up eight digs. Menke landed five digs. McCloskey and Skinner finished with match with four digs apiece. Sole listed three digs. Troudt had two digs while Biltoft had one dig.

Biltoft, Menke and Troudt accounted for six kills apiece against Silver Lake. Himmelberg smashed down five kills. Mazour and Skinner claimed four kills each. Himmelberg slid through four aces. Troudt slipped in three aces. Menke added an ace. Mazour had an outsized effort with 38 digs. Menke accounted for 22 digs. Sole was good for 15 digs. McCloskey collected 14 digs. Himmelberg added eight digs. Biltoft sent up three digs. Troudt added two digs.

The Raiders continue play in the Hastings St. Cecilia Tournament today (Thursday). Lawrence-Nelson visits Kenesaw Tuesday for a triangular match with Red Cloud and Kenesaw.
