SHS girls golf headed to district

The Superior High School girls golf team is rounding into form as they head into the ditrict match. The Wildcats took home second place at the Fullerton Invitational, Tuesday. The team took second place, with a score of 381, in the 11-team field. Other schools competing at the match were Columbus Scotus, Fullerton, Boone Central, Shelby-Rising City, Grand Island Northwest, Sutton, Exeter-Milligan, Heartland and the Fullerton junior varsity team. The 18-hole match was played over the Pawnee Hills course.

Superior hosted their lone home match of the season at the Superior Country Club, Thursday. Superior trounced Sutton.Though the weather was less than ideal with cloudy skies, wet grounds and cool temperatures, Superior recorded a team score of 194 while Sutton posted a score of 277.

Superior played their final regular season match Tuesday. They competed in the Centennial Invitational over the 18-hole Centura Hills Golf Club course.

Haley Blackstone won the third place medal at Fullerton with her round of 86. Rayne Biltoft was in seventh place in the individual standing with her round of 91. Neah Mcmeen finished in 11th place with a round of 97. Nadia McMeen carded a round of 107 for 22nd place in the individual standings. Lauren Tietjen responded with a round of 120.

The road to the state championship begins Tuesday when the Wildcats enter District C-1 play. District play is completed on Wednesday. Superior will compete against teams from Ashland-Greenwood, Auburn, Central City, Elmwood-Murdock, Exeter-Milligan, Fairbury, Heartland, Humboldt-TableRock-Steinauer, Johnson County Central, Lincoln Christian, Lincoln Lutheran, Palmyra, Sutton and Tri County.

The top three teams qualify for the state championship tournament being played at the Elks Country Club, Columbus. Should a team fail to qulify, individual team mebers may qualify by finishing in the top 10. The state championship is to be played Monday, Oct, 10 and Tueday, Oct. 11.
